They didn't win. But I wasn't devastated.
Once I knew it was pretty much over for the boys, I made up my mind and watched the end of Bulldogs (for this year).
When the team was in front, I really wished it to last till the end, but in actual fact, it didn't take long for Saints to pick up their pace against Dogs and churned out 7 consecutive goals in the 3rd quarter. The final margin was 24 points (4 goals), but it could've been a lot worse.
Indeed, Dogs played a lot better than a few marginal wins they managed recently. They were more 'together' and gave their best shot despite the team's lingering issues.
They also have many excellent players. In order to maximise the team's chance for next season, I'd say Bulldogs has to sack Eade the coach. It looks to me that all he's doing is to kill the team's great potentials. Still, Barry Hall was a great addition to the team, while initially he was thought to be the Bulldog's biggest gamble.
It's true that he sucks really bad sometimes, but when he's on a roll, he's unstoppable. And I think he'd be most comfortable in Bulldogs, from the way that blue, red and white uniform suits him so perfectly - it's almost as if he's been in the team for a long time.
Hopefully the team will fire Eade and hire someone who can use the right cards at the right time.
Now, the season is over for Bulldogs.
Still, you guys did well and you're going to play better next year.
It was also the farewell game for two veterans Johnno and Eagleton. Rather a distasteful good-bye, but they both played fantastic.
They should be proud of themselves.
